Calling All Classical Music Fans!

Some of you might know we have a new fragrance this year--Tresor in Love! It's a very pretty fruity floral take on the original Tresor.

The fragrance launched in Europe and it is coming to the U.S. later this year. Lancome spokesmodel Elettra Wiedemann is the face of the fragrance, following in the footsteps of her mother, who was the original face of Tresor. (You all knew that, right?)

Lancome used a composition by Philippe Briche and Michel Portal for the original Tresor commercial, and commissioned more music for Tresor in Love that builds on the original. (Do you recognize certain parts of the music from the Kate Winslet commercial?) I thought you'd like this video of the symphony in Paris recording the music. Watch for a few glimpses of Elettra and the commercial on the video screens in the studio.

Enjoy!

Things I love right now, too early in the morning.

All from Louis Vuitton's Spring 2010 Collection

Glasses are AMAZING and I want money to buy them. Now.
My favorite neckline...and I'm all about that for my collection.
Not a biter, just a lover.
This model is always stunning.
Delicious neckline again. "Loving" it too. ;)
Knitwear heaven. Can't see the stitches clearly but the color is almost iridescent.

Fat wale corduroy is all mine. Fuck off Vuitton! I called it.
I have a better idea than you, but I can't say,
you'll just have to wait and see what's up my sleeve.

Fall is my favorite season to design for, usually, but Spring is in the air and I almost forget how
intoxicatingly romantic it can be. Florals, soft pastels, femininity, .......????

FORECAST: Beauty Trends Fall/Winter 2010-11

On a beautiful fall evening in October 2009, the lovely ladies of Edelkoort Inc. and beautypress joined forces to host an invitation-only event at Edelkoort’s NYC headquarters, The Firehouse.

Attendees included representatives from Amazon Beauty, Bleu Magazine, Chantecaille Beauté, Erno Laszlo, Good Housekeeping, Givaudan, LashControl, LUSH, Marc Rosen, Meniscus magazine, MyBeautyBerry, Priti Nails, Scenterprises, WWD Beauty Biz, 3&Co., and more. Guests enjoyed apple cider and Bouké wines, and were then seated for two informative presentations:

First, beautypress founder Gabriele Fuchs, reported about the rapid growth and acceptance of beautypress by the editorial community.

Next, Emmanuelle Linard a leading trend expert and executive director of Edelkoort Inc., provided an inspiring look at beauty trends for Autumn/Winter 2010.

TREND UNION
FALL/WINTER 2010-11

“MONOLOGUE”

In a response to the economic downturn, we choose to slow down, take a very close look at our identity and re-assess our brands and products lines, as well as our manufacturing and distribution ways. We will scrutinize every step of our personal and professional behaviors and open our minds to different solutions to adjust to a new world in motion.

Weary of trying to create everything for everybody, accepting that we have diluted the quality of our merchandise into excessive production and scattered our skills in too many product lines, we strive to simplify it all.

We quiet everything down and we focus on the essence of our brands, the core of our lines, on the magical origins that attracted our customer base in the first place.

T-B, L-R: Brandi Halls of Lush, Camilla Barungi of African Moringa, Jen O'Holla of Lush, and Allie Leung of Lush; Kathryn Cusimano of Betty Confidential and Marianne Mychaskiw of Good Housekeeping; beautypress founder Gabriele Fuchs updating attendees on beautypress growth; Ragna Frodadottir of Edelkoort, Diana Tedesco of beautypress, and Emmanuelle Linard of Edelkoort

This concentrated state of mind becomes a MONO recipe to redefining a sustainable solution for reinventing and marketing our way ahead.

This mono-minded inspiration will apply to many categories of design. Distinct and focused beauty trends are identified for the Fall/Winter 2010-11 in this concentrated approach, where we will comply with sharper design choices, chosen references and accurate creative ideas. We will be assertive in our beauty looks, to make our seduction known in a distinct choice of color, brick red, all red, black, grey, metallic and more. Packaging materials and shapes will be adopted without hesitation, sustainable or eerie, decorative or minimalist, historical or futuristic, pure or passionate. Specialized brands and one-destination store will be elected by consumers who are restructuring their lifestyles and reinventing the way they shop.

To make sense, for now! Consider yourself now in the know ...

Win the Products in Michelle's New Video!

Hi, everyone. Michelle Phan, our video makeup artist, posted her latest Lancome video on YouTube on Thursday. If you haven't watched it yet, please take a look. My favorite part in the video is Michelle's tape trick. As a beauty editor and ghostwriter, I've written tons of beauty articles (and a few books) and no one ever mentioned that tape trick. It makes so much sense. For those of you (like me) who always wanted that Sophia Loren eye makeup but couldn't figure it out, here's a way to do it!

We're running a little giveaway on our Lancome Paris Facebook page. If you become a Lancome Facebook fan between now and Friday night, you'll be entered to win all the products in the video above. Brushes too. This is open to existing fans as well. We'll pick one name at random on Monday.

If you win and you're also a follower of the blog, make sure to let me know. I'll throw in a bonus! And some Scotch tape!!

P.S. To those of you who asked about our summer bronzer, it's not sold out online! Sorry about that. We just had a shipping glitch. It will be here soon and I'll let you know when it arrives. Thanks for your inquiries.

Buon Giorno, "Matt" The Italian MUA...And Some Blog Giveaway Winners! Maybe You?

I spent today taking care of the blog's Gmail account. (Exhausting!) But there were a lot of nice emails from many of you, so thank you. One of the emails tipped me off to a cute project our Italian team is doing. It's called "Matt the Makeup Idol" and it's the fictional (I think) account of a young, very handsome Lancome makeup artist who seems to answer housecalls and last-minute makeup emergency texts. If any of you speak Italian, please feel free to translate some of this.

Matt has his own YouTube channel and there are five short videos. Even if you don't speak Italian, they're fun to watch. You can see Matt running around his swanky apartment, playing with his dog, playing with his hair, grabbing his cool Lancome case and jumping into his groovy Mini Cooper. It all seems very Italian.

Does anyone know if "Matt" is a real makeup artist?

I also forced myself to learn Excel this weekend so I can keep better track of the blog giveaways. I realized we never named the winners of a few blog giveaways and that a few previously announced winners are AWOL! Atelier Gal won the BB Kiss giveaway; Kristin won the Oscillation lash giveaway; Angela won the French skincare giveaway. I've emailed all of you. Awesome, if you read this, you won the Erika F. giveaway and we're still trying to find you! Same goes for Lucky/Lucy, who won the blog birthday giveaway. And JT, I need your phone number for UPS! All of you can email me at thelancomeblog@gmail.com.

Thanks for everyone's patience. As soon as we get these packages out the door, we'll go back to our regular schedule of giveaways!

It's not that I've been a bad blogger on purpose, I just didn't have somebody to help me with picture taking (thank God my sister is a wonderful photographer!). The weather is amazing, and the spring atmosphere gives me a big smile! I really like outside pictures, so I am gonna take advantage of those great days!

I was happy to find out that two lovely ladies gave me two more amazing blog awards! A big thanks to AH from the Confessions blog for giving me the Best Blog Award, and lots of cyber hugs to Alexandra from Alex's Wonderland for giving me the Sunshine Award (and of course for her really lovable comments). Blog awards always feel so good!

Someday I may do a post with some clown pictures that we use to take with my sis!
Love you all, keep on commenting!

Look at Those Lashes! Meet the New Lancome Spokesbaby & His Yummy Mummy!

Can you believe those lashes?? Those belong to Baby A., the newest Lancôme spokesbaby! (Is he gorgeous, or what?) His mom, Vanessa, is a member of the Lancôme PR team and she just got back from maternity leave this week. She's rocking the Alexander Wang braid today (and some Coral Rush Juicy Tube gloss). As you can see, we're still having fun with the PhotoBooth feature on our new laptop.

Speaking of the Alexander Wang braid, if you read fashion magazines, you've seen it everywhere. It was the hairstyle for Alexander's spring 2010 show (bottom pic) and everyone went wild for it. If you have hair that's long enough (lucky you!), go for it. It's such a fresh, pretty look.

It's hard to fake hair like Vanessa's without the headache of extensions. But you can fake great lashes like Baby A.'s! If you love to try new mascaras, you need to investigate Hypnose Drama. I think I've mentioned this already, but HD has gotten a lot of love from the bloggers! Makeup and Beauty Blog gave it an A; Beauty Girl Musings has the most amazing before-and-after photos of her HD-intensified lashes, and Clumps of Mascara, my favorite online mascara snob, is already on her second tube. It creates the drama two ways: the super-rich formula and the brush that you can flip. Apply with the curve facing out, then flip the brush over and separate your lashes with the curve facing in.

By the way, thank you to everyone who's reviewed it. (Even those who didn't love it. Mascara, after all, is a very personal choice because everyone's lashes are different. But we do value the feedback!)

I use HD the same way as Karen (Ms. Makeup and Beauty Blog). I wipe the brush on a paper towel before applying. I know this won't be a popular tip because people think they are wasting product, but I see professional makeup artists do this on shoots all the time. It just gives you more control. And besides, when is the last time you finished a mascara down to the very bottom? You know you're supposed to replace every three months for hygiene reasons, right? (Or so says Consumer Reports!)

The best way to tell if your mascara is past its prime? Smell it!

So this weekend, take time to smell the roses and your mascara.

Have a great one. xoxo

Anti-Aging Skincare FOUND and Remembered

Remembering an exquisite line of anti-aging skincare with a serum and a moisturizer so stunningly unique, potent and rare it draws a heavy sigh just at the memory of the very first experience of the formulas penetrating my skin ... FOUND.

As skincare really is my #1 passion amongst the beauty categories, it's surely not difficult to imagine that I circulate skincare brands and products ... ahem ... frequently.  So frequently in fact that it's rare that I use the same products two days or nights in a row, unless I'm reviewing.  Now having said that, I do certainly have my favorites, my ones that I go back to over and over again, my tried and true loves that sit upon my bathroom counter or secure a place in one of my bathroom drawers because they're called upon more regularly than others. Yet even those are only maybe 10 - 15 in number.

FOUND, however, has earned a very exclusive location on display in my bedroom atop the chest of drawers.  Oh, you'll find other "products" upon that chest, but not facial skincare.  I have some select body creams, a few fragrance bottles, a shine serum I love for my hair, some lipsticks (another guilty pleasure) and the Christmas card from this past year from my honey (he's been in the UK and further abroad for months on business, so it's special to me to have it close), but no other skincare "system" has pulled at my heartstrings strongly enough to warrant that I keep it out and close at hand as FOUND's Sarpa and Istr has.  You've heard about these luxurious, powerful products from me before when I first reviewed them in Fall 2008, so please check the review to read about the uniqueness of this brand, its creator Eric Cosson (a self-admitted science addict and natural ingredient espouser), and the products in more detail.  I just had to rave about them again today as having not used them in several months, I decided to apply them last Sunday night before bed and got completely lost in the luxurious experience of these treaures once again.  I've used the serum and moisturizer (the only two products by the brand currently, by the way) every night this week not able to deny myself of the pleasure using these products brings to my senses, my skin and sure, I'll say it, my very being.

Just a gander at the ingredients is enough to make a compelling argument in favor of the probability Sarpa and Istr are indeed potent, effective anti-aging products:

SARPA
a creamy-pink viscous gel serum, simply heavenly feeling on application

Hyaluronic Acid
Increases hydration and moisturization

Argireline, Leuphasyl and Syn-Ake
(a wrinkle reducing tripeptide similar to the peptide found in the venom of the Temple Viper snake)

Each of these three wrinkle reducing, peptide-loaded ingredients work together to produce Botox-like results, blocking muscles responsible for expression lines, reducing muscle cell contraction, relaxing lines and wrinkles.

Matrixyl and Matrixyl 3000
Peptide messengers that boost collagen, elastin and fill-in wrinkles

ISTR
a rich cream custard-like in texture, buttery in color with a distinct peppery-marine-herbal scent

Living Sea Water
Rich, active living water enriched with Spring Seawater and Spirulina Blue Algae; moisturizing and anti-inflammatory in properties

Acqua Biomins
Rare trace elements like Germanium, Copper and Manganese that help protext against external aggressors and free radicals

Encapsulated Vitamins A, C and E

Ostrine
A unique oyster extract, amino acid rich that assists skin in eliminating toxins

Dermaxyl
Peptide messenger that boosts collagen, elastin and fills-in wrinkles

Sarpa and Istr both contain essential oils, each with its own special aromatherapeutic healing property
  • Palmarosa - "turkish geranium", fungicide and bactericide restores balance and allows skin cells to rejuvenate
  • Sandalwood - soothing, anti-inflammatory and healing properties for dry, sensitive skin
  • Ravensara - "tree with healing leaves"; considered to be a magical plant by the Malagasy; restores balance, calms and invigorates; also thought to have anti-viral properties
  • Clove - purifying, large-spectrum anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-infectious, anti-fungal, invigorating and healing
  • Black Pepper - stimulates circulatory system and muscle tone
  • Coriander - invigorating aphrodisiac soothes stressed skin (no wonder I'm attracted to these products so much)
  • Nutmeg - powerful tonic that restarts cellular vitality

Sarpa and Istr each come packaged in sleek, glass white jars and boxed with extra literature on the products and a tiny spatula (each has its own) to aid in keeping product fresh and untainted by not having to dip your fingers into the product.  The price is extravagant, but worth every single penny and then some. One only needs a tiny bit of product (a pea size for entire face) for each application. Therefore, a little goes a long way!

SARPA retails for $225 a 1-ounce jar, ISTR retails for $195 a 1-ounce jar.  FOUND skincare is available at Aedes (love that store), Zuneta (for our UK friends) and online directly from FOUND. I cannot wait for 9 p.m. to roll around so I can cleanse my face and experience Sarpa and Istr again tonight ... heavy sigh!

NOTD? Ms. Perfectly Pink Le Vernis

Lara recently asked if we could start doing some NOTDs (a.k.a. Nail of the Day) on the blog. I'm wearing our new summer color, Miss Perfectly Pink, a truly perfect fuchsia color, and it matches my dress so I thought I'd give it a shot. I took the pictures above in my office a few minutes ago. (That's my favorite Harper's Bazaar cover ever in the background.)

Actually, I took about 200 photos on my MacBook Photo Booth and those three were the only ones that didn't make my hands look like something from a scary movie! Oh, and I'm wearing a ring because I read something in the current issue of Allure that said rings make your hands look more youthful. Bring on the rings!

How do All Lacquered Up, Nail of the Week, Scrangie, The Hungry Asian and the other fab nail bloggers do it? Their hands, nails and manicures always look lovely in their photos.

Anyway, Ms. Perfectly Pink is a fun color and it makes me wish summer were here RIGHT NOW. One note about the color: in person, it's a bit brighter and a bit less blue than in the pictures. The Bronze Riviera summer color collection, including MPP, just went live on lancome.com, so make sure to check it out. Lots of pretty, wearable items!

How do your nails look today?

Michelle Phan's Latest--Makeup for Eyeglass Wearers!

Who says you can't wear cool eye makeup and glasses at the same time? Not Michelle Phan, our video makeup artist. Michelle has a fun new video that's meant to remind those of us who are eyeglass wearers (I'm one!) to be creative with our eye makeup. Michelle was here last week to speak at the Teen Vogue Beauty Awards breakfast and she mentioned that "makeup for eyeglass wearers" is one of her most frequently requested video topics.

And for those Michelle fans out there, her next Lancome video is coming soon! Michelle showed us a rough edit yesterday. It's very cool and features a new signature Michelle makeup trick. It will be live on YouTube and lancome-usa.com within a week!

DIY: Safety Pins Top

What I love in styling is creativity. The whole process of creating something unique, according to your imagination and style, has always amazed me. Ever since I was 5 years old, when I personally asked my mother to help me rip off my jeans. Since then, when I am bored of my old clothes, I come up with many ideas to use them again , and to individualize them in accordance to my personal taste.

Steps:
  1. Choose a loose top (it can also be a sweater, a dress, a jean jacket, or whatever), so that your creation will not be destroyed when stretched.
  2. Buy plenty of safety pins, they are pretty cheap (you can also use a combination of gold and silver ones, or colorful, in many different sizes, depending on what you intend to create).
  3. Design the layout of what you imagined (I used a cd marker, you can also use a chalk or a piece of soap). It can be a word, a sign or something abstract.
  4. Start creating, it's so much fun!

I would L-O-V-E to see your creations!
I'm waiting for your opinion, outfit pictures are about to come,
Many Kisses Darlings!

PS: A special thanks to those wonderful ladies, who gave me a huge excitement with their lovely awards, I swear, I love it when you express your appreciation to my blog! Don't forget to visit Alexa , Jezebel, and Joanna from Bittersweet Life, those girls are amazing. Love you all!

Flash Bronzer is Back! Phew!

Lancome has several bonafide cult products and our Flash Bronzer self-tanner range is definitely on that list. Much to the horror of F.B. fans, the products disappeared for a few months while we worked on an updated formula and packaging. It's finally back! It's on our website, I spotted some on Friday at the Lancome boutique on the Upper West Side (212-362-4858 for those of you who are truly obsessed) and I'm sure it's hitting counters any minute if not already.

I'm pretty pale and not a self-tanner expert, but I learned a few fun things about Flash Bronzer while working on the relaunch. The formula has a seaweed extract that helps to tone and firm skin; it contains a natural caramel extract (yum); and the new fragrance contains notes of jasmine and honey. All sounds good to me.

We'll have more to come on Flash Bronzer in the weeks ahead, including a fun project that we'll need your help with. Stay tuned!
